Tex Caldarola has 20 years of experience in the finance and investment sector.
At First Wall Street, she was been involved in over $1 billion in transactions; her roles included sourcing transactions, financial advisory, structuring debt and equity capital and principal investing. As a principal, she participated in the firm's syndicate to invest in mydna.com, which was sold six months later to Steve Case of Revolution Health.
Caldarola also was part of a team engaged in multiple financial advisory assignments, including a $60 million balance sheet restructuring of Minacs Worldwide, a public Canadian call center company; a capital financing (both equity and mezzanine) for International Marinas; a resort developer; a balance sheet restructuring of $236 million for the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Biloxi, Mississippi; and a capital raise for a venture company, smartdrive.net. She also raised equity capital for Euro Capital, a Bulgarian real estate developer and has established contacts throughout Central and Eastern Europe.
Caldarola began her career at Paine Webber in public finance and subsequently joined Fortrend LLC, a boutique investment bank specializing in merger and acquisition transactions for both the public and private sectors. As an outside consultant, she was responsible for sourcing over $700 million in transactions in real estate, financial services, logistics, transportation, media and telecom.
Caldarola graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor of arts degree in economics.
Derek has over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry. He was the senior managing partner of the National Equities Group, which consults private and public companies relating to capital structure of debt and equity offerings, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions .While at National Equities Group, Mr. Cornaby’s main focus was on structured debt, strategic investments, equity roll-ups, and exit strategies.
Cornaby was also a vice president with Zions Bank Capital Markets (formally Discount Corporation of New York) and participated in the underwriting and sales of government agency, corporate, mortgage, municipal, and SBA pool bonds to and for institutional clients. In addition to fixed income sales and trading, Cornaby assisted in the implementation of GovRate – the oldest automated internet trading system in the fixed income market.
Cornaby also served as vice president with Merrill Lynch in their private client group, helping manage portfolios for high net worth individuals.
Cornaby holds a bachelor of science degree in economics from the University of Utah.
Mr. Appleby brings together twenty years of experience in the fields of entertainment and investment in intellectual property. Having spent the last decade as an investor in ventures ranging from vaccine companies to fitness products, Mr. Appleby has been involved in taking two different companies public, including GeoVax Labs and ExchangeBlvd. He has served on boards of many of the companies in which he has invested. Additionally, his experience in working with many private companies toward growth, merger or public offering has given him the opportunity to see numerous financing strategies. He has served as the CEO of publicly-traded companies as well including WorldWide Auction Solutions, Inc. Earlier, as the CEO of Intellectual Property Investment Partners, Mr. Appleby not only provided capital to the companies involved but sourced strategic partnerships allowing for internal growth of the same companies. Prior to becoming a strategic investor, Mr. Appleby ran the worldwide sales efforts of two different film and television companies which garnered six Emmy awards during his tenure. He graduated from the University of Southern California.
Ms. Appleby has more than twenty years of experience in the fields of finance and investment. She has managed portfolios worth $500M using varying strategies across multiple platforms including equities (public and private), debt, hedge funds, real estate and entertainment. In this capacity, Ms. Appleby has served on both boards of advisors and boards of directors of many of these companies. Her experience lends itself to a very strong management style concerned with both value and growth. For nearly ten years, Ms. Appleby served as Co-Founder and President of Harmony Gold Finance (HGF) in which capacity she placed hundreds of millions of dollars into companies as well as financed the building of hundreds of home across California and Nevada, all completed with an early-eye on the environment. HGF was originally formed in the early 1990’s to take advantage of access to cash during a liquidity crunch. Ms. Appleby has been involved with taking companies various companies public as well through various offerings. Her financing experience has not been limited to the United States, but rather has taken her abroad as well with multiple investment opportunities. Ms. Appleby received her B.A. from the University of Santa Clara and her M.B.A. from Pepperdine University. She is also certified in Treasury Management and Corporate Finance from the Amsterdam Institute of Finance in Holland.
Dan Silverstein is the Managing Member of Heuristic Management, LLC, a business consulting firm with interests in private equity and real estate investments. From July 1998 to December, 2008 he was a Managing Director of The Investment Edge, LLC, a private investment firm of publicly traded securities. Prior to that he held various positions at brokerage firms in New York City. He is also a private sector adviser to the UN Office for Partnerships and serves on the board of directors of Palms For Life Fund which provides aid in the developing world for agricultural development and girls’ education. He is a member of the board of directors of Accelegrow Technologies, a start-up company which produces a fertilizer supplement that dramatically increases crop yield. In 2003 he was a consultant to the New York office of the United Nations World Food Programme and was instrumental in creating Universities Fighting World Hunger, a nationwide student initiative based at Auburn University in Auburn, AL. Mr. Silverstein is a native of Glens Falls, NY and lives in New York City.
George Todd brings to Talos Partners more than 20 years of experience building successful entrepreneurial technology companies. He has focused on strategic financial development, using his extensive background in building proforma plans, capitalization planning and early stage funding and executive planning. In the investment banking arena, Mr. Todd has provided strategic business development services to numerous technology companies. He was a Managing Director of Convergent Technology, an investment banking firm, and specialized in assisting early stage technology companies. He has expertise in the development and execution of strategic business and financial plans, strategic Intellectual Property development and has raised private equity capital through a broad network of high wealth individuals, venture capital and private equity funds. Over the last 10 years he has been involved with numerous software firms including those in the wireless software, smart parking, media, real estate and entertainment sectors. Mr. Todd's experience covers a number of other market sectors, including wireless data transfer, internet reseller/retail, various software markets, and plastics technologies. George Todd is based out of Seattle, Washington and services Talos' clients in the Pacific Northwest, including Seattle, Portland and Vancouver BC.
